Open Days

We decided to present our school to pupils, parents and other interested parties before it started for real in January 2008.

The first of these Open Days took place on 3 November 2007, during which over 30 children sang songs and played games - all in German of course. They also listened to a story about St Martin in preparation for St. Martin's Day on 11 November, which people in Germany celebrate by parading through the streets at night-time with lanterns. We made lanterns too of course, which the children had great fun decorating.

Another Open Day was held on Saturday 1 December 2007. The programme was a bit different this time: we held lessons with the two groups (Kindergarten and school children) to give them a taste of what the school will be like for real in January. Parents were allowed to watch. The topics of the lessons were "snow" and "St Nikolaus".

Both days were a huge success in terms of numbers and interest shown in the school. We had over 20 families attending each time -- and there was not much overlap between the two events. Our programme was also accepted very well, and gave us a good idea of how to set up our lessons.
